It seems that the script writer of
Pangako Sa ‘Yo under ABS-CBN forgot to watch the word that he or she is using. In
that teleserye, the character delivered a vulgar or offensive word such as ‘libog’
which is not appropriate for television. It seems that they don’t know that are
many young audiences who are watching their show. The Movie and Teleivision
Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) noticed that explicit word that’s why
they sent a summon letter to the station.
ABS-CBN acknowledged the summon
letter of the MTRCB. They made an public apology for what they did. In their
statement, they said: “ABS-CBN
apologizes for the strong language used in the May 29 episode of ‘Pangako
Sa’Yo.’ We recognize our responsibility to our viewers and will work closely
with the MTRCB to prevent it from happening again.”
We hope that this could be a lesson,
not only to ABS-CBN, but also to other network out there. They should always
choose and be responsible to the words that they are using. They should
remember that television is not like internet where the people can say all what’s
on their mind. Although we always hear the reminder which says ‘think before
you click’. In television, we could also say to the writers, “Think before you
write”.
