The Aquino administration is boasting the good effects of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) because they have been helped a lot of poor families in the country. Last month, Kris Aquino, the sister of the president was introduced some of the beneficiaries of 4Ps who were scholars who tended to graduate from highschool through the help of the said program. Pantawid Pamilyanh Pilipino Program was first implemented during the term of former Pres. Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and it was adopted by P-Noy.
But despite of the help of the 4Ps for the poor families, not all the lawmakers are in favor in this kind of program. Abakada rep. Jonathan dela Cruz said, "It can't be the prime plan for poverty alleviation as it is open to abuse and endangers a culture of dependency and mendicancy". The solon also believed that the beneficiaries are just depending on 4Ps. This is a hindrance to for them to develop their lives. Instead to strive to improve their livelihood, they are just relying to the government. They are just contented from what they get in 4Ps.
Rep. dela Cruz concluded the depending of the beneficiaries to 4Ps is enough to say that the program is not effective. It is not approriate to say that because of 4Ps, the poverty in the Philippines have been decreased.
On the other hand, the critics of the Aquino administration suggested that instead to focus on 4Ps as a tool to combat poverty, why they don't provide livelihood for the poor families. As what the proverb says, "Don't just give them a fish, but teach them how to fish". In other words, teach them to depend on themselves rather than to depend in 4Ps.
